Character Background

Fern lost her parents at a young age and was raised by the priest Heiter, who nurtured her magical potential. Before his passing, he entrusted her to Frieren, ensuring she would be cared for and trained as a mage. Under Frieren’s guidance, Fern matured into a capable, dependable, and powerful companion, walking a path filled with responsibility despite her youth. Her journey reflects both her resilience and the fleeting beauty of a human life compared to Frieren’s centuries.

Abilities & Skills

Personality

Fern is reserved and serious, often acting older than her years. She carries herself with maturity, but her youth is revealed in her small quirks: she’s prone to sulking, sometimes refusing to talk to Frieren or Stark if upset. Despite this, she’s loyal, steady, and deeply kind — a quiet strength in her group of companions.

“I want to eat snacks.”

Trivia

Why I Adore Fern

My favorite character in the Beyond Journey’s End franchise is Fern, Frieren’s apprentice and aide. She’s reserved, quiet, cautious, and incredibly smart. I admire her skill as a mage, but also her humanity — she sulks, she gets annoyed, and she loves snacks. She’s a wonderful balance of strength and vulnerability, which makes her feel very real. To me, Fern is proof that quiet people can still carry great power and heart.
